Swap the data in two cells in Excel as long as the cells are adjacent to each other.

In the example above, May is incorrect, it is listed before April.

To swap the contents of cell D1 (May) and E1 (April) — Highlight D1 and hold the shift key, click and drag the edge of cell between E1 and F1 — until the green I-Beam icon appears and then release.

May and April will switch places

By holding the Shift key when moving a cell, tells Excel to insert the data rather than overwrite.

This technique may be used horizontally or vertically as shown below.

Highlight, click shift & drag to location desired

This will work with a group of cells as well. Same technique is used. Highlight, click shift & drag until green I-Beam icon appears.

In the example below, the Budget data needs moved before Actual. So highlight section that needs moved, click shift & drag until green I-Beam appears.
