Excel Tips — Trim Date Extraction Function

Trim text in cell — The Excel TRIM function strips extra spaces from text, leaving only a single space between words and no space characters at the start or end of the text.

  1. In empty cell type =Trim(reference to correct)

Extract date from a date and time — see example below.

2. Add column for formula — In the example that would be column D

3. In column D, type =INT(B3) to extract the date.

4. Results — column D now shows the date only. Be sure and format column D for date.
